Throw Back Thursday – A 2008 Nantucket Wedding
Hi Everyone, it’s Throwback Thursday! We absolutely loved this couple, and so do our brides-to-be.
This wedding look is one of our all time most requested (still to this day, and a favorite of ours too for good reason!)
Today we’re looking back on a 2008 Nantucket Wedding shot by Claudia Kronenberg Photography.

Nantucket Yacht Club Wedding Featured on Style Me Pretty
We are so happy to share this wedding today. Lindsay and Paul were married on a beautiful June day in Nantucket. Our bride Lindsay had a pretty clear idea of what she wanted from the onset and worked closely with my team pulling all the little details together.
Coral and white were the main colors with pops of pink and silvery greens. Driftwood played a big role in our tablescapes and created such a unique look. I think one of the best moments of this day for me was peeking through the draping to see if we could start dismantling it before the guests came in for the reception. Standing right in front of me was our beautiful bride and her parents. To see the emotion on their faces in seeing all the planning and hard work come to life was so emotional. Dad even made me cry! I love when we really get to know the families that we work with. It makes what we do even more important and it’s heartwarming when I see that much love in a room.
Lindsay had a surprise of her own for the Paul. During the ceremony she had the acapella group The Cobbletones flash mob the ceremony and break out in to song. The pictures of Paul’s reaction are priceless! For more of their special day head on over to Style Me Pretty and get all the scoop on the big day from Lindsay herself.

Galley Beach Wedding Featured in Wellwed Magazine
Mel & Kevin’s Galley Beach wedding in Nantucket is currently featured in WellWed Cape & Island’s Issue No. 9
Today we’re sharing more images from their wedding with shades-of-blue and pops of purple. We just love Mel’s naturally trailing bouquet. A trend we are seeing a lot more of for 2014.
Soirée not only designed the florals, we also created a fun table just for kids. Goody bags hung off the back of every chair with a whale icon and ‘mermaid tails.’ The kraft paper tabletop along with crayons and markers kept them busy for hours (not to mention the candy centerpieces). Next week we’ll be sharing
more about our custom design services – so be sure to keep an eye out!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone. Today, I’m happy to say we are being featured over on Flirty Fleurs. Alicia has become a wonderful source of inspiration to me with her flower power knowledge and her calm, sweet demeanor. She’s always a pleasure to be around. Her posts are definitely a must read! Be sure to head on over today and see what I have to say about Soiree Floral, our design process, being in a creative field (and how to deal with it when the ideas are just not coming).

Real Nantucket Wedding at The Whaling Museum
Sharing our real wedding stories with you is one of our favorite things and the next few Fridays we’ll be sharing more with you from our 2013 season.
Kiki and Peter wed on a beautiful, sun-filled day in July at the First Congregational Church in a palette of ivory, champagne, white, blush, and muted greens with the ocassional pop of color. The phrase we kept using for Kiki and her big day was “luxe bohemian” – that seemed fitting! The designs were garden inspired and unstructured with café au lait dahlias, garden roses, and chamomile to name a few.
There was a slight vintage touch to the day, with mercury glass vases and votives at their Whaling Museum reception. The couple danced the summer night away with their friends and family. See more images from their wedding, here.
Thank you Kiki and Peter for asking us to be a part of your magical day!
Cheers,

Happy Monday everyone. We love a fall wedding, especially one chock full of details. Our couple Ben and Bess had the best September day to say ‘I Do.’ The geniuses behind Inkspot Crow captured their day on video and all the prettiness is being showcased this afternoon on Style Me Pretty.
Be sure to check it out and soak in that warm, sun-filled day that Ben and Bess were so lucky to have! We’ll be posting more about their wedding soon with more amazing images from Jose Villa.

Seeing Green – St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Ideas
We’re excited to turn our attention to yet another event to celebrate. This month it’s St. Patrick’s Day!
Everything doesn’t have to be covered in green, so we wanted to show you some subtle ways to show your “Irish Pride” this March 17th.
Food First – what to cook? We scoured the internet for recipes that were twists on traditional Irish cuisine – like these, Corned Beef and Cabbage Turnovers – brilliant!

And we love the sound of an Irish Grilled Cheese!

Beer is a huge player for this holiday, and after all that snacking you’re bound to be thirsty!
So, why not turn this party into a Beer Tasting?
Traditionally, a craft beer tasting consists of one of each of these:
Seasonal, Stout, Lager, IPA, Wheat, Ale, Pilsner, and a Porter.
Pick and choose your favorites, choose them by how fun their labels are
or ask your package store attendant!
Depending on your guest list, pick up the necessary supplies –
Libbey 4oz tasting glasses and Paddle Board from Peele Paddle
We love these “Rate Your Beer” Coasters

And last but not least… a fun twist on serving up a pint – Beer Floats!

Hosting a Mardi Gras Soirée
With the Academy Awards coming up on Sunday, March 2nd and Fat Tuesday on March 4th, we decided to pull together some ideas for throwing a Mardi Gras-style soirée! And we’ve got you covered, from decorations to food to what to wear!
Decor:
Without going all kitschy, try something subtle but within the theme… we love these garlands, the fleur di lis marquee sign, the paper decorations (these would be great over your King’s Cake table!) and of course we love those pom pom toothpicks! How festive!
Food:
We wanted to keep it traditional, but simple – mini-muffeletas, jambalaya, gumbo, okra, King’s Cake and beignets!
And last but not least – you need to know what to wear, right? Here are our ideas for the perfect Mardi Gras Look!

What to Wear to an Oscar Party
Last week we shared tabletop and decor ideas for hosting an Oscar Party;
this week we’re sharing two style boards on what to wear to an Oscar Party.
We styled our boards with cocktail dresses – a practical alternative to gowns!
First up, just like our party palette, we stuck with Black and Gold but explored different textures.
Secondly, we were inspired by Jewel Tones – a perfect match for our party palette and stylish, too!
Lastly, we’ll leave you with our favorite looks from last year’s Academy Awards –
watching the Red Carpet is the best, isn’t it?
We hope you have a lovely soirée – whether you’re hosting one or attending one!

What’s Your Style? – Bridesmaid’s Dresses
Happy Tuesday everyone. We hope you enjoyed the long holiday weekend (and all the snow we’ve been getting here on the east coast)! We’re in the busy season of proposal writing so we thought we’d bring up a topic that comes up at the beginning of every design meeting. Believe it or not, the color of the bridesmaid’s dresses can often help develop the overall look and style of your big day.
We often have clients who come to us after first getting engaged to talk about the big picture and what ‘homework’ they should be doing to start creating the look and feel for their big day. So many couples tell us they “know exactly what their colors are going to be” and my response is “Do you have your bridesmaid’s dresses picked?” So many times, as clients do start the hunt for the perfect ‘maids dresses, they often change their mind. There are a hundred shades of ‘navy blue’ and that color means something different to everyone. It’s really the same thing with any color. This year in particular, we are seeing a lot of coral bridesmaid dresses (something we also saw a lot of in 2013) and a lot of neutrals in a look developed more by separates than by a traditional bridesmaid line.
We compiled some of our favorite looks to help get you thinking about the overall style for your day.
Also, be sure to refer back to our first post about Bridesmaid Style back in August.

What’s Your Style? – Cocktail Hour
Finding your wedding style on your own can be a bit overwhelming, so we’re here to help with another addition to our “Style” series.
This post goes hand-in-hand with our Linens post a few months back, and we wanted to share some tips on how to hone in on your cocktail hour style.
Cocktail Hour is a great place to gently sway from your reception decor. It can be a great place to play with texture – leaving room for the rest of the night to be more formal or elegant. A few ideas to consider:
Cocktail Hour is a great place to gently sway from your reception decor. It can be a great place to play with texture – leaving room for the rest of the night to be more formal or elegant. A few ideas to consider:
1. Fun linens – patterns, sequins, or three-dimensional linens like rosettes, petal or confetti that come in a variety of colors.
2. Different blooms – these don’t have to necessarily “match” with the reception’s flowers. Succulents, non floral elements or incorporating fruit is also a great alternative.
3. If your cocktail hour set up is going to stay up for the whole night use lanterns and add a few blooms and a candle to set a romantic look. Another great look is uplighting – see how beautiful and glowy it is at night?

Valentine’s Day – Part Three – Shades of Pink
You know it had to be done… how could the ladies of Soiree Floral and Dawn Kelly Designs not create a pretty pink board?
If you’re not much in to the color red, going for pink this Valentine’s Day is equally romantic.
So today we’re sharing a board all about our favorite color – pink!
Using black as an anchor for pink provides you with endless options.
Like this TopShop dress paired with dotted tights – this look is ready for a night out!
And what could be more playful than this feather skirt? Tuck in a silky tank, pair it with a fitted blazer and talk about va-va-voom!
So whether you’re going for an playful, romantic or sophisticated look – here’s to show that pink can do it all!
We’ve been adding to the Valentine’s Day board on Pinterest – so be sure to check it out!
We hope you have a great Valentine’s Day!

Super Bowl Sunday!
The football season is almost over and no matter which team in the NFL is your team, the Seahawks and the Broncos are going head to head to fight for the championship this Super Bowl Sunday.
So, has your hunny/hubby announced to you that “the guys” are coming over – which immediately means (at least to us) … “What am I going to cook?”
Well, we’re here to help! We’re taking a mini break between sharing our third Valentine’s Day post to share some tips and ideas with you for hosting a fabulous, and delicious Super Bowl Sunday party!
First up – a Football Sunday (no matter the game) must – Hot Wings!
This is my tried-and-true (very simple) recipe and each time I make it all I hear between chewing and beer sipping is “Mmmmm…”.
Julie’s “Famous” Wings
Ingredients:
Olive Oil
Salt & Pepper
Chicken Wings – Wings and Joints
Frank’s Red Hot Original
Preheat your oven to 425ºF. Prep your wings by rinsing them, patting them dry and tossing them in some olive oil in a bowl. Once they are lightly coated, sprinkle salt and pepper on them until they are covered. Pop them in the oven on a foil-lined cookie sheet for about 45 min. At the end of the 45 minutes, I usually assess how much longer they’ll need – usually 20 – 30 more minutes. I don’t flip my wings, I let them caramelize and get a little crunchy on the outside. Once they’re cooked, I toss them in a bowl and shower them with Frank’s Red Hot Original hot sauce. Ta-Da! I told you they were easy! I serve mine with Marie’s Ranch dressing and carrots and celery, of course! But if you’re a true Bleu fan, Marie’s Bleu Cheese dressing is yummy, too!
Visit our Super Bowl Sunday Pinterest board for more recipes – warning, you’re in for an unhealthy snack overload! But hey, the guys will love it – and decor ideas, too! Incorporating fun foam fingers, team food picks – you name it!
Our favorite DIY so far…? The “Football Field Table”
This would be great to display all the yummy food you’ve made!

We’re excited for the game (okay, mostly Bruno Mars and the commercials!) but we love any reason to host a party!
Here’s to a fantastically-delicious Super Bowl Party!

Aisle Style – Beach Ceremonies
Happy Friday everyone. We are back with our third installment of ceremony style. Today, it’s all about the beach. There’s nothing like having a big blue ocean as your backdrop. The sound of the waves and sand between your guest’s toes is all you need to get your big day off to a great start. When deciding what decor you want to incorporate in to your ceremony keep in mind how breezy the area gets. Some locations are sheltered whiles others are more exposed so work with your professionals to plan accordingly.

Valentine’s Day – Part Two – Seeing Red
It’s time for Part Two of our three part post on Valentine’s Day!
This time is all about red red red! If you’ve got plans for a nice dinner,
here’s what we’re dreaming up for a drop-dead gorgeous look.
We’ve dedicated this style board to the classic color of love, red. It pairs well with black and silver (gold, too)
and instantly perks up an outfit. (It adds a little va-va-voom, too! Trust us, he’ll love it!)
If you’re not sure what shade of red is best for your skin tone, refer to this post from the Beauty Department, it’s fail proof!
For this board we chose a mix of styles – pencil, lace, fit and flare to show you that
any body type at any age can achieve this look!
We just loved this orange-based red Kate Spade dress! (It’s on sale, too!) Wouldn’t it look amazing with a statement necklace (like this one from JCrew or this one from the Bauble Bar) and black or gold heels? The possibilities are endless!
Want something a little less modern and a little more romantic? A lace dress is just the ticket!
Here’s the one we featured on the board: Bloomingdale’s.
If the color red seems like a bit of a scary leap – try a black dress with red lips, nails and shoes!
We hope you’ve enjoyed dreaming up the perfect Valentine’s Day outfit, we’ll be back with one last style board to inspire! If you missed our first post, click here.
In the meantime, make sure you keep up with our Valentine’s Day Pinterest Board!
Cheers,
The Soirée Team
Aisle Style – Outdoor Ceremonies
We’re back with another post on ceremony style. Today, we’re dishing on outdoor ceremonies. Whether you’re in the backyard of where you grew up, gathering your nearest and dearest on a sprawling lawn at the club, or tucked away in the woods there are endless possibilities to define your aisle style. Just remember that you need to have a Plan B! It’s always better to know what the backup plan is and never use it than to be scrambling at the last minute while your guests are getting soaked.

Valentine’s Day – Part One – Cozy at Home
It’s hard to believe that the holidays are behind us, the New Year has begun and Valentine’s Day is on the horizon. Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to get dressed up, be with the one you love and celebrate! We’ve created a new series of posts in honor of this love-filled holiday. We’ll be sharing three style boards over the next few weeks to help you get inspired for all things hearts and roses.
First up, is our “cozy at home” board.
Sometimes, especially this time of year, you just want to stay in!
We designed this board around a cozy cabin-feel – perfect for lighting a fire, cuddling up and sipping wine and snacking on charcuterie.
Staying in for the night doesn’t necessarily mean dressing down. We love this mid-length pencil dress from Anthropologie. You can dress it up with cute heels and a statement necklace – it’s fun, but it’s practical, too!

Aisle Style – Church Ceremonies
Happy Friday everyone. As we continue to get images from all the fabulous photographer’s we’ve been working with we noticed a few common threads and decided we’d turn them in to a series of blog posts about ceremonies. So today we’re dishing about church ceremonies.
Every church has their own rules, and it’s best to check in ahead of time to make sure you know the do’s and don’ts (the professionals you hire should be able to guide you along the way).
When I’m working with a client, I always ask them for descriptive words to describe their day. That helps us figure out how much of the budget we want to allocate to the ceremony. The great thing about church ceremonies is that many of the churches are ornate and beautiful on their own. Others are so big and grand that they can handle big floral pieces up front to frame out the wedding party. Here are some of our favorites.
Let these inspire you as you plan for your big day.

A Styled Bridal Shoot Featured in Wellwed Magazine
We’re trying to stay bundled up in all this cold so we decided to warm up with a trip back to summertime. We had the chance to work with some fun vendor friends on a shoot at Jettie’s Beach. As with anything we do, we’ve learned to be flexible. We had a bit of wind the day we shot this, so the whole tablescape had to be redone to accommodate Mother Nature. Justin and Mary Marantz worked their magic behind the camera and made our models feel comfortable to get the most out of them. Mary has a way of politely controlling you like a robot to get you to do exactly what she needs to see behind the lens. I was in awe.
The dresses were amazing, and Julie laughed when I said I wanted the strapless number. The color is amazing! The jewelry was gorgeous and the hair and makeup were spot on. The rentals tied in to the color of the ocean and the food was just the pop of color we needed on the table. Oh June, where are you? Enjoy the eye candy!

My Favorite Things – Behind the Scenes
We’re back with another of My Favorite Things from this year. Contrary to popular belief, the flowers and fun things we work with don’t come all pretty and ready to go. There is a lot of work behind the scenes to create the designs we make. As my Chapel Designer friends like to say ‘this job isn’t for sissies’. So here’s a look back on an incredible year with amazing clients and fun designs. My one regret is that we get so busy I don’t always have my phone out capturing moments as much as I should. I have an incredible group of people who help support Soiree Floral and Dawn Kelly Designs and I couldn’t make it happen without them. My hat’s off to all of you – I love you!
photo shoots with our magazine friends give us creative freedom to play with new ideas…
Even my fur babies Ellie Mae and Tallulah Belle get decked out in pink on game day. Gotta represent!
We had a busy September, and I got ‘new ride’ for the month. I am laughing in this photo because if you could have seen the look on everyone’s face with the little bubble over their head ‘- she’s not really gonna drive that is she?’ Thankfully, no! I leave that to the professionals.
We were so busy, that while my parents were out for a visit, I put them to work too, puppy sitting and cleaning flowers. I bribed them with a lobstah dinner on the beach.
We work hard, really hard, and it’s not always fun. So I tried to mix in a little fun during the down times. Of course, the one day we get to do this was blustry, but we had a ball anyway!
Dan Driscoll of September Productions caught us during set up and behind the scenes of several weddings this year. We had so much fun looking back – Thanks Dan!

Happy Holidays
From our Soiree family to yours, here’s wishing you peace, joy and happiness this holiday season.
This beautiful image was captured by the talented duo Justin & Mary Marantz. We styled and designed a shoot with them on the beach in Nantucket. More to come on the blog soon. Gown provided by L’elite Bridal.
