Fete en Blanc Party

September 4, 2013

We get the pleasure of creating some great party work during July and August on Nantucket.  Recently, we had the pleasure of working on a ‘Fete en Blanc’ party for Svitlana Flom, author of the blog Art de Fete.  She wanted to create a fun evening for her guests while they stayed on Nantucket. Her sketches and notes showed us she wanted a chic, nautical vibe with a clean aesthetic.  We worked closely with A Taste of Nantucket and Placesetters to create an amazing tablescape full of texture.  From our vintage bottles and driftwood to lush, white roses mixed in with textured linens and gold chargers from Placesetters.  An amazing menu and wine list by A Taste of Nantucket rounded out the evening.

Vendors included:
Catering – A Taste of Nantucket
Placesettings & Rentals – Placesetters
Floral & Decor – Soiree Floral/Dawn Kelly Designs
Music – Audio Architects
Photography – Katie Kaizer

Trash To Treasure – Week 10

August 26, 2013

Creating a little “treasure” from the not-so-great has been so much fun these last ten weeks.
Today marks the last Monday of August, the “calm before the storm” as we like to call it!

This Trash To Treasure will be our last for a while, as we gear up for the Fall Wedding Season.

Hristina was inspired by a floral cuff she saw in a store recently…
Creating a real floral cuff was all she could talk about last week!

Here’s what she started with:
A broken dahlia, floral adhesive and some twine.

And voila!
Look at this beauty!

We hope you’ve enjoyed reading about our creations this summer!
In September we’ll be flooding the blog with Real Weddings!

We can’t wait to show you!

Cheers,
The Soirée Team

What’s Your Style? – Bridesmaids

August 22, 2013

The gown you choose to walk down the aisle in is one of the most important decisions you will make for your wedding day. Another important decision is what your bridesmaids will wear.
Believe it or not,  color palette of your wedding very much depends on what you and your ladies wear. The colors, the cut, the fabric – they all fine tune your wedding style.

Here’s an inspiration board we put together with a few looks that might appeal to you for your wedding:

Bridesmaid Style

Take a peek at some of our past weddings for inspiration:

Here are a few of our favorite boards:
Style Me Pretty – Bridesmaids
Amsale Bridesmaids

Magnolia Rouge – Bridesmaid Style

Utterly Engaged – Maid of Honor / Bridesmaids

So many beautiful options!

Are you any closer to knowing your bridesmaid style?

Trash To Treasure – Week 9

August 19, 2013

Its another Monday which means we’re starting the week off with another Trash To Treasure.  This week, Julie took a turn at the design table.  Here’s what she had to say about her creation:

If you were to ever visit my home, you would instantly know a few things about me…

1. I like the color grey.
2. I like antique-y old things.
3. I decorate in a country-farmhouse-meets-Nantucket kind of style.
This week I took that style and channeled it in to an arrangement for a dear friend of mine.

The chamomile and the veronica were my favorite flowers to use this week –
they give me that just-picked-from-the-field vibe.
I wanted to make something that felt home-y and cozy in a way… like a hug through flowers.
When I delivered this arrangement I knew I had reached my goal.

Hope y’all are having a wonderful Monday so far!

Cheers!
Julie

Flower Friday – Week 5

August 16, 2013

The peony is probably one of the most coveted blooms our brides request year after year. They are fluffy, romantic and soft – the perfect accompaniment to a wedding celebration. You might think that a bloom so distinct has limitations… think again! Today’s Flower Friday is all about the versatility of the peony – are you a romantic, girly bride? The peony fits! Are you more of a modern bride who likes clean, sleek lines? The peony fits! What about a bohemian-esque, slightly vintage bride? We probably don’t have to say it again, do we?

(But we will!) The peony fits!

Let us show you…

Give us a ring to chat about how we can incorporate this bloom into your big day.

Happy Friday!

What’s Your Style? – Linens

August 14, 2013

Linens are a great way to add detail and dimension to a table – whether it’s for a party, a rehearsal dinner or a wedding. We’re always excited to introduce a fun print or texture to a table.  It accentuates our arrangements and really brings the whole look together.

If you’re on-the-fence about a print or pattern, try going for a linen
with texture; like these:
This ivory colored pintuck linen is elegant but adds a great element to the finished look of the table.
Looking for something a little more than the subtle pintuck? This green linen packs a punch; it’s shimmery, the tucks are more three-dimensional and adds a plushness to the table
(linens and table settings by Placesetters).
This rosette linen (a favorite of ours, by the way) makes a real statement. It’s lush, feminine and takes the table to a whole new level. Would be lovely as a cake table linen! (It also comes in white and ivory, too! Linens and table settings by Placesetters).
This soft, sagey green linen has sheen and a little bit of texture up close; definitely a subtle statement linen.
(This image is from our Fall-inspired Bridal Shower shoot that was featured in WellWed.
See more images on our website. Linens and table settings by Placesetters).
This gold, glittery linen coordinated perfectly with the modern design of the flowers at this Great Harbor Yacht Club wedding. You can see here that the whole room sparkled and shined and really took the decor to the next level. Another perk? The room glowed that evening! The sequins reflected the warm glow of the candlelight and created an even more romantic environment.
If you’re interested in exploring a print or pattern for your tables
(and making a big statement), here are some to consider:
These striped linens created a funky, yet sophisticated vibe during cocktail hour at this
Nantucket Yacht Club wedding.
This hot pink chevron was just the pop of color needed for this cocktail hour.
This gold and copper circle-stitched linen is a fun one for cocktail tables! We love how it accented our amber votives and our fall-inspired arrangement.
This burlap and twine textured linen is elegant and bold – great combo, right?
Lovely on the cake table, would also be great on a dining table as well. (Linens by Placesetters).
We’ll end today’s post with a dreamy night shot by Zofia and Co..
This is a great example of a textured linen (these are fluffy, three-dimensional and petal-like) that was elegant and soft during cocktail hour, but takes on a whole new look when up-lighting is added to create drama!
So what’s your style? Subtle with texture? Color and pattern? Something in-between?
Let us help you choose and create a cohesive look for your cocktail party, rehearsal dinner or wedding day!
Cheers,
The Soirée Team

Trash To Treasure – Week 8

August 12, 2013

It’s Monday again, and we’re here to brighten up the dreaded first day of the week
for you with another Trash to Treasure by Hristina!

Floral crowns, headbands and halos are all-the-rage right now, whether for
a party, a wedding or just because!
Hristina was inspired by this trend (one that we all hope doesn’t go away any time soon)
and created her own floral halo.

Materials:
Floral tape, floral adhesive, hydrangea blooms and wire.
Results:

She can’t stop smiling! And neither can we! What a great accessory!
Hope y’all have a wonderful Monday!
And don’t forget – follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep up with all the
floral loveliness of Soirée Floral!

Flower Friday – Week 4

August 9, 2013

What a bride carries down the aisle is one of the most important elements of her big day.
Some carry all white, some a bouquet of one kind of bloom, others a plethora of color.
Today, we’re sharing some of our past brides who chose to carry shades of white.
What will you carry down the aisle on your wedding day?

A Night in Tuscany

August 7, 2013

Sunflowers are one of those flowers in life that always make you smile. They know how to turn a frown upside down. We recently worked on a Tuscan party for The Westmoor Club and there were sunflowers everywhere you turned. This design was a great example of how you can take one element and use it over and over and over.
It really creates an impact.

Tuscany. Lots of natural greens in different shapes and textures filled in to make things look more organic.

Inside the club, we created a dramatic look with fabric draping and globe lights (actually, we call them Godfather lights. I’ve never actually seen the movie – but all our clients refer to the wedding scene in that movie with the lights strung up.) Anyway…

To complete the look inside we created flower beds above to look like sunflower fields. It was a lot of work up and down the ladders (no one ever really knows what it takes to create something like that – a post for another time). It was a dramatic way to finish off the room and transport guests to another destination. We heard the party was great fun and a good time was had by all.

Contact us for your next party, wedding or event. We’re happy to help dream up fun decor elements that will wow your guests.

Trash To Treasure – Week 7

August 5, 2013

Sometimes, every now and then, a great idea turns out harder to execute than you thought.
Enter – my trash to treasure this week.

Initially, I had hoped to make this perfectly symmetrical and evenly fluffed “mod” triangle with a cool topper for a bedside table arrangement. It didn’t exactly work out like I had planned, but hey, you live, you learn and now I know that baby’s breath and I need to get better acquainted.

Materials:
Baby’s breath, poppy pods, orchids, floral foam and some other fun flowers I found in the cooler.

The topper was really my favorite part – I liked using the pods and different textures to create a non-floral look.
Now, if only I could have sculpted that baby’s breath triangle…

Hope you’re having a great Monday!

Cheers,
Julie

Flower Friday – Week 3

August 2, 2013

By now you might be aware that we Soirée girls love pink,
and we always get a little bit giggly when our brides do, too!
We wanted to share with you this Flower Friday some of our
favorite bouquets with pops of our very favorite color – PINK!

Not a fan of pink? No problem! We know not everyone’s a fan.

Lilly Pulitzer Bridal Shower

July 31, 2013

Lilly Pulitzer is pretty much a Nantucket summer staple.
Her prints are so fun and summery and always in style!

You can shop Lilly while you’re here, on South Water Street or snag some
vintage Lilly at currentVintage on Easy Street.

A few weeks ago we were lucky enough to be a party of a
bridal shower, Lilly-style, at The Chanticleer.

Fun, bright and preppy – we wanted to share with you a few details from the party.

Here’s an inspiration board of what we would have worn to this little soirée:

Trash to Treasure- Week 6

July 29, 2013

For this Trash to Treasure, I had the pleasure of working with gorgeous, plush, and vibrant pink carnations.
I especially love carnations because when they are grouped together, they sort of resemble ruffles,
and I am a huge fan of ruffles!
My initial thought was to use them to make a cake topper. As I thought about it more, designing a  faux   cake, made entirely out of carnations, seemed like a better idea. I have come across many pictures online of cakes that have ruffled icing so I thought this was a good alternative without having to do all that kitchen labor (although I do love to bake).
These would serve well as centerpieces for a garden party, birthday, or wedding!
To add some detail to the “cake,” I made a little banner out of sticks, paper, and a little glitter to put on top.
You could add a personal touch with names, initials, or any other cute phrases written on the flags!

Until next time,
Kelsey

Flower Friday – Week 2

July 26, 2013

This week on Flower Friday we wanted to share the boutonniere designs Julie did from last weekend’s wedding.
If you follow us on Instagram you might have seen Julie’s very first boutonniere – simple and elegant.
This wedding was very luxe bohemian with pastels and a touch of magenta.  There were lots of textures and our bride wanted things to compliment each other but not be ‘matchy-matchy.’

Dawn often refers to her designs as her “babies”… well, now Julie know what she means!
Here are Julie’s “babies”…

We can’t choose a favorite, can you?
Happy Friday!
Enjoy!

Clambakes – Soirée Style!

July 24, 2013

Living on Nantucket (or New England) in the summer you’ll see a lot of clambakes.
It’s a favorite summer pastime and it’s a sure-fire way to throw a fun, casual get-together.
Many of our brides even throw clambake-style rehearsal dinners.

Clambakes can happen on the beach, in your backyard, or at your favorite picnic spot!

Here are some soirées we’ve done:

The options for details are endless!
Having fun with your linens is a great way to add interest to your party – try blue check instead of the traditional red, or perhaps something like the map linens above. (We love that one, from Placesetters!)
These “Nantucket Red” drink signs and the “guest book” oar are fun details that you guests will enjoy.
We’ve been dreaming up some ideas on Pinterest, check out our Clambake Style board.

The perfect way to end any summer night? With S’mores!
(If you didn’t see our yummy s’mores post, click here for ideas!)

Whether your clambake is for your rehearsal dinner, birthday party or just because,
we look forward to being a part of your soirée!

Cheers!

Nantucket Wedding Featured on Style Me Pretty

July 23, 2013

Happy Tuesday everyone.  We’re smitten to share this beautiful couple with you today.  Ashley and David were married on Nantucket last summer and threw a clambake for their guests at the Wauwinet, followed by celebrating the big day with a close group of family and friends at The White Elephant.  We love a bride who loves big, fluffy blooms, throws in a little rustic chic for charm, and cares about all the little details that make for finishing touches.  You can see even more from their big day on Style Me Pretty.  There are lots of inspirational ideas you can incorporate in to your big day.
Isn’t this stationery the sweetest?

Who doesn’t love a gal who adores sparkly Jimmy Choo’s?

This sweet ombre cake remains one of our favorite’s by Jodi’s cakes!

A little birdie tells me these two were spotted vacationing on island this week!  Congratulations and happy almost one year anniversary!

Trash to Treasure – Week 5

July 22, 2013

Last Monday we skipped our Trash to Treasure post in lieu of an international act of kindness – The Lonely Bouquet.
(If you missed that post clock here to read all about it)
This Monday, we’re back on track! And this week we’re sharing what Svetla created.
Svetla is a gardener at heart – she’s great with plants and and flowers and knows how to keep them green and growing! And what’s even better? That talent and knowledge seeps into her design work at Soirée.
Svetla is always inspired by the gardens she maintains and is always eager to bring that inspiration into the studio when designing for weddings and events.
With some roses, sea holly, hypericum berries and hanging amaranthus – here’s what she came up with!

We love her use of color and contrast in this arrangement, don’t you? It’s fun, a little whimsical
and garden-lush.
Happy Monday y’all!

Flower Friday – Week 1

July 19, 2013

Today we’re starting another fun blog series for us – Flower Friday!
Flower Friday will give us the opportunity to share more of our designs with future
brides as they plan their big day.
Your ceremony is a key part of big day – the “I do” moment marks the start of your new life together.
Making the choice, if budget allows, to make a big impact in your ceremony design is a decision that you won’t regret.
This bride chose a lush chuppah and a petal aisle with their initials – it makes quite the statement, doesn’t it?

It’s also the small details that count, too. We strung crystals at the top of this chuppah, creating a little sparkle and making for a great detail shot for your wedding album.

A version of this can be done no matter your wedding style – romantic, rustic, modern, or vintage.
Variations on this idea can also be created with a budget in mind.
All of these images are by the lovely Zofia & Co. click here to see more details from this gorgeous wedding.
We look forward to sharing more wedding details with you on Fridays!

It’s not a party…

July 17, 2013

Until it’s a soiree!

Designing for parties in the summer is the “icing on the cake” during the season on Nantucket. It is so much fun to see people enjoying themselves with their friends and family as they gather for birthday parties, cocktail or garden parties, and summer soirees.

The range of colors and textures is across the spectrum this time of year …

In addition to providing stunning and unusual arrangements, assisting our clients every step of the way with our event design services really pulls an event together. Custom tote or gift bags, stationery, linens, and favors are just a few examples of how adding small details can add impact to your guest’s experience.

We look forward to hearing what you have planned!

The Lonely Bouquet

July 15, 2013

I’ve been so excited to write this post.  Today we’re talking about the project ‘The Lonely Bouquet’ that we participated in at the end of June.  We had so much fun hiding bouquets around downtown Nantucket.  It was a rainy day, so we had to rethink our secret locations but in the end I think it worked out even better.

We hid the first bouquet on the steps of Shreve, Crump and Low

We dodged rain drops to hide the second bouquet at The Lion’s Paw

Then we snuck over to The Boarding House, and just in time.  The rain came down so we stayed tucked in under the covered porch and nestled this little beauty for someone to find.
We were headed to our next location, and we couldn’t get in the door (everyone was in desperate need of coffee), so we headed over to Sweet Inspirations and left these little pretties to be found.
For our last bouquet, we thought she needed a fashionable setting so we snuck her in on the steps outside Current Vintage.
We enjoyed getting the emails from people who found our little flower babies around town.  This random act of kindness had us floating on cloud nine all week.  We can’t wait to do it again.

This is a progressive blog post, so be sure to check out what my designer friends created for their towns/neighborhoods.  There’s a lot of eye candy to be seen.

Summer Soirees – Vol.2 – S’mores, Please!

July 10, 2013

Summertime is so reminiscent of childhood, don’t you think? Summer break, going to the beach, no responsibilities… well, not really, but don’t you wish!? For me, summer is all about working hard and playing hard — Nantucket is the best place to be for both!

On days off my favorite thing to do is pack up and head to the beach! And the one thing
that makes the end of the day so much sweeter is a good s’more!

I don’t know about you, but as I get older, making and eating the “average” s’more
has become less and less fun. So, I took to Pinterest and drummed up
some pinteresting ideas to spice up my favorite summertime dessert!

The first one to catch my eye was this delicious-looking one:

The Chocolate Lover’s S’more
Photo from www.CookingClassy.com
Now, THIS is my kind of S’more! So decadent I’m certain I’d only be able to eat one!
Chocolate graham crackers, chocolate marshmallows and a milk or dark chocolate bar!
I’m currently obsessed with Green & Black’s Almond Chocolate bar – which would turn this into a
Chocolate Rocky Road S’more! YUM!

Lemon Meringue S’more
Photo from www.CookingClassy.com
This one looks so refreshing! Tangy lemon meringue with a vanilla marshmallow!
How could you go wrong?
Jaclyn, at Cooking Classy has the right idea about how to spice up the original s’more recipe…
I can’t choose just one! Click here to view more ideas!

If you’re interested in making everything from scratch here are some links to help!
Marshmallows – via MyRecipies.com
Graham Crackers – via Smitten Kitchen
Chocolate Bars – via From Scratch Club
Add whatever you like to your homemade s’mores ingredients to come up
with your own tasty version of this summer staple!

One thing I learned writing this post –
The love of s’mores is so great that they even have their own holiday!

What kind of s’mores will you create this August 10th?

Cheers,
Julie

Trash to Treasure – Week 4

July 8, 2013

We hope you’ve been enjoying these little “treasure” posts as much as we have!
Creating something from the not-so-pretty blooms and materials we have left over is very rewarding.
Last week consisted of designing for Fourth of July parties, so when it was Hristina’s turn
to create a little treasure from trash, the holiday was right there to inspire her.
Hristina has some beautiful colors at her finger tips… Orchids, Stock, Ranunculus,
Garden Roses, Spray Roses, and Eucalyptus leaves.
The end result was a girly version of our Stars and Stripes!
What girl wouldn’t love this adorable pastel flag!
Three dimensional art like this would be a great display for the Fourth (next year, of course!) – maybe secured with some ribbon and hung? Or propped up on a buffet or bar table? This kind of art is a great conversation-starter, too!
It’s fun to think outside of the box!
Until next time…
Cheers!

Summer Soirées

July 3, 2013

We are excited to kick off another weekly topic – Summer Soirees –
where we will discuss delicious recipes, and entertaining tips!

Summer is officially upon us, and you know what that means: it’s time to prepare for picnics, barbecues, and summer soirées of all kinds! We wanted to share with you some recipes that caught our eye (and our taste buds).

First things first, what could be more appropriate to entertain with than the Edible Flowers from 101 Cookbooks?
Use them to dress up your yummy desserts, or surprise guests by freezing them inside of ice cubes to beautify their drink of choice! If only all flowers were edible.

Our team of ladies always get giggly when lunch time rolls around because we all tend
to pack the same foods. One staple item you will always find in our lunch sacks is hummus.
So, in light of our hummus obsession, we are excited to try this Lemony Hummus by Smitten Kitchen. It would be a perfect and healthy addition to that sunset picnic on the beach!

On Nantucket we are surrounded by several farm markets, which make it easy to find fresh fruits and veggies.
To kick off the first day of summer, strawberry picking was obviously on our to-do list.
This recipe for Roasted Strawberry and Toasted Coconut Popsicles by Joy the Baker looks like a wonderfully refreshing way to use up some of the (countless) strawberries picked.
Last but not least, a summer soirée is not complete without a tasty cocktail (or mock-tail) in hand. Champagne is always a crowd pleaser, and this Champagne Royal from Your Southern Peach looks delicious to sip on while enjoying the company of friends, family, and sunshine.

CHEERS!

Trash to Treasure-Week 3

July 1, 2013

This week’s Trash to Treasure is oh so stylish and fun to make!

Bib necklaces are very popular right now, and are a great statement piece to spice up any outfit.
J. Crew has been making gorgeous floral necklaces that inspired me to make my own using real flowers!
First, I threaded white carnations onto floral wire, facing downward. I felt they added nice volume to the piece. Next, I threaded five craspedia onto each side of the carnations to add shape, dimension, and a pop of color. Lastly, I glued six daisies onto the carnation stems. I liked how the center of the daisies matched the craspedia, and were consistent with the white and yellow color scheme.
The best part is that it serves as not only a beautiful necklace, but it smells good, too!

This necklace was really easy to create, which is why I think it would be a great project for a kids party or a get together with girlfriends! It could be really fun experimenting with different flowers, as well.
This floral necklace would be a great addition to wear to your next summer soiree! I guarantee you will get plenty of compliments, especially when you tell them, “they’re real!”

CHEERS,
Kelsey

Nantucket Wedding Featured on Style Me Pretty

June 25, 2013

We all love a good wedding, and this wedding was good for so many reasons!  Our gorgeous couple Peter and Jaclyn were married last summer on Nantucket at the beautiful Great Harbor Yacht Club.  I was smitten with Jaclyn the second I saw her sparkly Jimmy Choo’s (glitter runs in my veins).  Her aesthetic was very much modern, clean, and chic.  You don’t get much better than coral charm peonies at the height of the season.  You can tell from the amazing images below there was a lot of love that filled the room that night.  We’re so happy that Peter and Jaclyn are part of our Soiree Family.
Hugs to you!  See even more amazing images from this special day on Style Me Pretty.

Trash to Treasure – Week 2

We hope you enjoyed last week’s post of Dawn’s fascinator a la The Great Gatsby!
This week’s treasure is a little more free-spirited.
Inspiration: I’m currently planning my daughter’s birthday party (a bohemian-style soiree with tents, s’mores and dreamcatcher crafts) so I’ve had dreamcatchers on the brain.
Supplies:
(Side note: I just love the A Beautiful Mess Photo app!)
Making dreamcatchers will be a part of my daughter’s party this year – in-between making
and eating s’mores… (I’m sensing a s’mores food post in my future!)
While we won’t be using flowers in our dreamcatchers, this was a nice trial run
to see what I could do with what we had in the studio.
Hyacinth was the best choice of the flowers at my disposal – it’s hearty, kind of waxy
and would sustain a good “threading”.
And… here is my end result!
(Note: you’ll see I also used some wire vase filler with lime green beads
that wasn’t pictured in my “supplies” photo. Great things come by happenstance sometimes!)
There you have it!
This little beauty is ready to be displayed and enjoyed!
Bonus: it smells lovely, too!
Until next time…
Cheers!
Julie

Trash to Treasure

June 17, 2013

This post will kick off a new weekly topic for us – Trash to Treasure!

Each week one of our team members will create something beautiful from the less than perfect blooms we can’t use at our events. We still see the beauty in them and wanted to put them to good use.

This week Dawn created a beautiful, summer-themed fascinator using some wire,
left over blooms, a headband and some fun, metallic floral mesh.

Inspiration:
Since the release of The Great Gatsby movie last month, the style of the twenties
has made a huge come back – it seems to also stemmed from all of the beautiful fascinators
seen at the Royal Wedding two years ago.

Kelsey was our beautiful model – another team member you’ll be hearing from later in the week!

Gorgeous, isn’t it?

Featured Blooms:
Peonies, Hyacinth, Sweet Pea and Dusty Miller.

Cheers!

Paper Party 2013

May 29, 2013

I am so excited to share this whimsical party with you today. The lovely Nole from Oh So Beautiful Paper Blog recently hosted a party for all her paper friends and industry colleagues during the National Stationery Show.  When I saw the inspiration board I knew this would be a fun collaboration. We took our cue from the party signs they were going to create with gold fringe. Gold glitter vases seemed quite appropriate for the Hudson Terrace venue. Mother Nature did us right that week with some amazing, vibrant colors. Janice from Bellwether Events pulled all the details together and you can see from the images everyone had a ball. How cool is that backdrop behind the bar!? Be sure to check out all the prettiness here.
