About The Day
There are few things more exciting to hear as a designer than “we want ALL the color”. We love a classic formal wedding, but once we saw Schuyler’s stunning Monique Lhuillier gown, we knew this one would be special. With “California butterfly garden” as our inspiration, we hit the ground running. Each element of the day tied back into Schuyler’s unique style, best described as “whimsy chic”.
Originally, Schuyler’s bouquet was an overflowing blend of colorful blooms. However, this evolved to an all-white textured bouquet of garden roses, butterfly ranunculus, sweet pea, nerine, scabiosa, astrantia, and chamomile. Bridesmaids carried vibrant bouquets of hot pink roses, hydrangea, ranunculus, chamomile, hypericum berries, and yellow craspedia. Marshall wore a floral “pocket square” Instead of a traditional boutonniere. While the Lily Pond didn’t work out as the ceremony site, it was perfect for Bridal Party and Family portraits.
As far as Plan B’s go, the ceremony site, a private home facing Coatue Point was particularly stunning. Splashy “window boxes” of mixed larkspur, stock, and delphinium lined the back of the aisle and a pair of floral “spires” framed the altar area. The ceremony ended with tossed rose petals and a butterfly canon.
A lot of our initial inspiration for the tent came from another favorite Great Harbor wedding. Proving that “it truly takes a village”, APAD and Maggie’s teams unquestionably saved the day. They helped untangle lines of blooms to hang from the ceiling and wire butterflies for the escort display. Butterflies and calligraphed scrolls with seating assignments floated above a bed of wheatgrass. Inside, strung blooms hung over the dance floor and the ceremony “window boxes” moved to the bandstand.
A lush garland of greenery and picked blooms ran along the head table with cane-wrapped votives and coral taper candles. Completing the design, guest tables had juicy centerpieces in our clear and silver mercury glass pedestal vases. We fully expect to keep finding feathered butterflies in the bushes at the club for years to come.
