A Holiday Weekend Wedding on Nantucket

October 12, 2009

Melissa and Matt were married this past weekend on Nantucket. I met Melissa and her mother a little over a year ago and a lot changed from our first meeting, in large part due to the amazing work by Ceci New York coming up with their stationary suite. This motif was the inspiration for everything else.

Melissa felt strongly that the ceremony was the most important part of her day and she wanted it to feel special. She also saw a photo in Martha Stewart weddings with a sweet design done in baby’s breath. At first, I held my breath – then we decided that if we were going to do baby’s breath, we were REALLY going to do baby’s breath. The front of the church looked like people were walking in to heaven. White clouds lined the steps as guests walked in (and we literally stopped traffic out front).

Melissa also wanted the escort area to be interactive (no picking up a regular place card for this bride!). So we decided to carry out her travel theme in to this area. We used the “M”s and anchor to keep continuity.

The couple found photos of all their parents and grandparents on their wedding day so we created a photo wall for cocktail hour that made for great conversation. Some of the bouquets and veils back then were over-the-top and quite unique! One of my favorite sentimental touches of the season.

The color palette was bold – teal, coral, gunmetal grey and white. We picked up the colors in the linens (all rentals by Placesetters) and vases, and softened the look with fluffy white blooms. A coral rose bloom was added to each place setting for the finishing touch, and every chair had a teal pashmina courtesy of Melissa and Matt (and more of the men were ‘wearing’ those pashmina’s quite creatively at the end of the evening).

The finishing touch to the event – a three foot whale cake! I snapped a photo of Jodi delivering the cake and making sure ‘Mr. Whale’ looked perfect for guest arrival at The Galley.

A Fall Inspired Nantucket Wedding

October 5, 2009

We had an amazing fall day on Friday for a fun, colorful wedding. The tablescape was chock full of texture, and we had an amazing time designing for this one.

It all started about a year ago when Nicole from Unique Nantucket introduced us to Christine (the bride). She was all about a fall wedding, lots of rich color, and completely trusted our vision to help get the job done. The bride carried white blooms with silvery grey and navy accents. That was the only ‘non’ color of the day.

The chandelier that hangs over the club’s dance floor was decked out in fall berries and foliage to cover up it’s ‘medieval look’. I worked very closely with Molly from Kramer Paper (she did all of the stationary for this wedding, and WOW was it gorgeous)and Christine to help finalize the escort cards, menu design (complete with some fairy dust)and table numbers. For the escort table, we took a huge birdcage and had a design with fruiting figs and persimmon branches, orchids and sea holly shooting out from the center. Each guest picked up their escort card tucked in a bird’s nest with a little feather. To top off the look, we had a big peacock perched above looking over everything. I can’t wait to see what Zofia captured for us.

The tablescapes for this wedding were unique because not only did we do round, square and rectangular tables, but we also had silk linens with a burlap runner. Some of the tables had gilded glass chargers, and some had twig chargers (all provided by Placesetters). To play off that, we did three different centerpiece designs (some in glass, some in wood)and sprinkled red crabapples throughout for a lush finish to the tables. At the last minute, I had some reclaimed cedar wood (always trying to be ‘green’!) cut to hold our table numbers. Even the club’s staff thought they were great and smelled amazing.

This wedding came together nicely and I want to thank Christine for trusting us wholeheartedly to make her vision a reality.
Enjoy Rome you two!
xoxo

New Orleans Charm on Nantucket

September 30, 2009

We had an AMAZING weekend last weekend. The weather cooperated, and we had the pleasure of working with some very special guests to the island. Hal and Dale had their nuptials here on Nantucket and we infused their New Orleans roots in every little detail. From the moment I spoke to Hal for the first time on the phone, I knew we were in for some fun. They had four days of treating their guests to the best the island had to offer. A clambake at The White Elephant, dinner at the Wauwinet, and an over-the-top black tie reception at the Whaling Museum.

The ceremony was very important to these two, and to celebrate their special day, we covered the church in green, white and blue blooms. A lovely scented garland greeted guests as they entered the church. Hal really wanted the day to capture the essence of Nantucket, with a little bit of their Southern charm. One of my favorite parts of the day is handing over the personal flowers to the couple. In this case, when I saw Hal and Dale, Hal pointed out he noticed the shells we put on the wreaths out front and he was beyond delighted (it’s the little things that make for special moments).

Simply with Style Catering
kept the guests well fed at the musuem, and even concocted specialty drinks from New Orleans. The gardenia is oh-so-southern so we decked out the railings as you enter the museum with the coveted bloom to greet guests as they made their way in for cocktail hour.

We designed an ‘over the top’ formal affair fit for a New Orleans crew (after all, Hal told me that people from New Orleans are most comfortable in black tie attire). Beaded overlays, silk linens, silver chargers, crystal glassware, and lush, garden style arrangements completed the tabletops (rentals by Placesetters)I’m told ‘When the Saint Go Marching In’ was played and every guest (and server) had white napkins twirling in the air! I can’t wait to see the photos from Zofia Photography.

The one thing I can definitley say is that every single vendor involved in this wedding was over the moon and LOVED being involved in their big day. Congratulations again Hal & Dale!
xoxo
